When we first came to this site, 1400 feet above the Napa Valley floor, we were awed by its combination of rugged terrain, panoramic vistas, and red rocky soils. Originally we just intended to build a home for our family. But the extraordinary quality of wine produced by our neighbors made us realize that the unique beauty of this spot deserved to find its full expression in a bottle of wine. We asked David Abreu, who planted and takes care of many of the great Napa Valley vineyards, for advice. His excitement about our
land and its potential to make truly profound wines was infectious, and the dream of Ovid Napa Valley began to take shape. Six months and a mountain of rock later, the Abreu crew had prepared the land for planting. In the summer of 2000, fifteen acres were densely planted to Bordeaux varietals – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot – in one-acre blocks. Our vineyards are farmed organically and our winery is green certified.
